Class C/CC Touring 33 mi at 11:00 AM from Northern Senior Center (St. Mary's County)
A scenic tour into the heart of the Amish farmland in Charles and St Marys Counties. We'll take Lockes Crossing to Woodburn Hill, then Dixie Lyon and Ryceville to a rest stop at the Amish school. Continuing on Ryceville, we'll take Trinity Church to Budd's Creek, then go up Old Sycamore and Dubois to a rest stop at Gilbert Run Park, newly reopened after a winter's hybernation. 33 miles, 1053' elevation gain. SAILING MARINA, TOWPATH TO GREAT FALLS
Class C 44 (or less) mi at 10:30 AM from Sailing Marina
Starting from the Washington Sailing Marina, we'll take the Mount Vernon Trail across the 14th St. Bridge to a brief stop at the Jefferson Memorial, where we may pick up riders who have arranged to meet us there, and then proceed along the Rock Creek Trail and the Water St. bike trail to the Capitol Crescent Trail trailhead, where we may rendevous with riders who have arranged to meet us there. We'll take the CCT to Fletchers Cove, where we'll stop and rendevous with riders who have arranged to meet us there. From Fletchers we'll take the C&O Canal Towpath to Great Falls (or, if riders want to bail early, to Anglers Inn). If we do get that far, we'll have a rest stop at Great Falls, then leave the Towpath and take MacArthur Blvd to a rest stop at Glen Echo, then ride through Glen Echo Heights to the CCT. After a second stop at Fletchers we'll retrace the route back to Alexandria. Depending on riders' wishes, before reaching Glen Echo we may stop on MacArthur Blvd for lunch. Tuesday Southern Exposure rides in 2020 have suffered from too much rain! Hopefully, this will proceed without any problem. A trip to the north and east to vary our ride directions. Old Indian Head, Cherry Tree Crossing and US-301 take us to Cheltenham, Duley Station, Croom Airport and a rest stop at the Pavilion. Leaving the rest stop, we'll take Duvall down to Mount Calvert, then climb Mount Calvert back to Croom to St Thomas Church and Fenno and a second rest stop at the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary. Nottingham and Candy Hill bring us back to Molly Berry and North Keys. 33 miles, 1326' of elevation gain. It's the first day of Daylight Savings Time, and they're predicting sunny skies and temperatures ranging from 50 to 63 degrees. It's hard losing an hour of sleep, but to cushion the shock we're starting "later" in the morning and from a closer-in ride start than usual. We'll head south on Mason Springs and Ironside, then go down Durham Church to 6, up Annapolis Woods and down Fire Tower, then take Mill Swamp to Brentland and a rest stop at Goose Bay. After the break we'll climb up Blossom Point and take 6 to Burch and Poorhouse, then loop around Pisgah Marbury and Bicknell before heading back to Pisgah Park. 31 miles, 1229' elevation gain. This ride takes us through some beautiful rolling countryside on our way south to Deale, where we'll stop for lunch at the South County Cafe, then explore Deale Beach, Franklin Manor and Cedarhurst on the Bay. We'll start with a ride along the Virginia side of the Potomac, for a panoramic view of the cherry blossoms, then head to DC. After a loop around Hains Point we will head into town for coffee with the bicyclists' Friday Coffee Club, near the White House. It is usually dark/just getting light at the beginning of the ride, so bring lights.

Class ALL 20+ mi at 10:00 AM from Livingston Road Parking Lot for IHRT
Ride one of the premier trails in the entire DC metro area from the Livingston Rd parking lot to White Plains and return. Ride at your own pace, go as far as you desire, enjoy stimulating conversation with other club members, and just have a good time! Convenient portolets along the route. Lunch afterwards (St James' Episcopal Church Fish Fry?) is always a possibility given the number of calories expended.
Directions: From Beltway Exit 3-A take Md 210 (Indian Head Highway) south for 14 miles to town of Bryans Road. Turn left onto Livingston RoadD/MD-227, after 1.8 miles bear right to stay on Livingston Road/MD-224 for 2.0 miles to the trail parking area on the right. [map to start]

Roosevelt Island to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Join me a few days after peak bloom to see the stunning Cherry Blossoms at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, in Vienna, Virgina. We will start at Roosevelt Island, climb the Custis Trail, and connect with the W&OD to Vienna. There is a new paved connector trail from the W&OD to the Gardens.
Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is a 95-acre oasis with lakes, wildflowers, gazebos, birds, butterflies, walking trails, and spectacular cherry blossom trees. One of its best spots is the Korean Bell Garden, which features over 100 trees next to a lovely lake. Note that Meadowlark’s cherry trees generally bloom three to four days later than the Tidal Basin, depending on the weather.
We will spend 45-60 minutes here, depending on weather and group preference.
