Welcome June! Looks like we're in for a nice summer day, so let's ride to the beach. Our route will be a twist on the classic "Train to Chesapeake" rides, going south as far as Dalrymple Rd and then heading back along the bay. We'll have two stops at stores. PREVIEW RIDE FOR PATUXENT RIVER RURAL LEGACY RIDE
Class CC 64/54 mi at 8:30 AM from Mattaponi Elementary School
This is a preview of the 64-mile route for the Patuxent River Rural Legacy Ride on Saturday, June 8, but instead of starting at Patuxent River Park, it starts at Mattaponi Elementary School. This is an opportunity for those who will be working as volunteers on the 8th to get to ride the route, but all are welcome. The 64-mile metric route is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27658298. The 54-mile route skips the Young Road/Celestial Lane/Wilkerson Road section at 22 miles and does not go to Eagle Harbor. The 54-mile route is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30145520. What the ride title says -- we will ride around the city of Alexandria, staying as close to city borders as we can while still riding on bicycle-compatible roads or trails. This will be the first outing for the pilot program Tandem Recumbent Trike. If you like to go slow, smell the flowers, and see the wildlife and scenery, then this is the ride for you. Since the weather forecasters let us down on May 28, lets try again to ride in the SW corner of Charles County. We'll head off to Riverside Road, outbound via Livingston, Mason Springs, Bowie, and Poseytown to a rest stop at the Nanjemoy Community Center. For the rider who would like to get in a ride after their work day, or just to ride, with a restroom at the start/finish, the "Starbucks Express" is the perfect "Non Stop" 25 mile ride that will start and finish in front of Starbucks located in the Manokeek Village Center at the far southern, quiet edge of Prince George's County, Maryland. From there, the ride takes you into Charles County Maryland. You will then skirt with Waldorf, White Plains, ride 5 miles of the scenic Indian Head Rail Trail, where you can do intervals, a challenging climb up Mill Hill & Bumpy Oak Road, which will sometimes include Hill Repeats, Pomonkey, Bryans Road, Accokeek, and then return to Manokeek, where you can enjoy a refreshment at Starbucks to complete your ride experience. Ride one of the premier trails in the entire DC metro area from the Livingston Road parking lot to White Plains and return.
