TUE Jan 1 | NEW YEAR'S DAY RIDE - NEW START Class C, CC, B and up 15 or more mi at 10:30 AM from DANGERFIELD ISLAND, GEO WASHINGTON PARKWAY We celebrate the New Year by visiting some iconic monuments in DC in company of riding friends on a very low traffic day in DC. Ride start is moved this year to Dangerfield Island (restroom available), closer to DC. Those who wish to park at Jones Point and bike to Dangerfield can add 3 or so miles through Old Town along the Mt Vernon trail and meet us about 10:15. The closer start means a closer end point! We regroup at the Jefferson Memorial after about 4 miles and then visit several monuments in a more or less 6 mile loop. We will stop at a coffee shop along the way for warm drinks and snacks. The group will stay together. I will ride from home in Arlington and anyone who would like to meet up with me, please get in touch via email or text. A GPS file may be posted closer to the time of the ride, but some parts of the tour may be changed as we go, to visit places of interest on the spur of the moment. Directions: Dangerfield Island is between north Old Town Alexandria and National Airport on the George Washington Parkway. If coming from Old Town it is the first right turn after the traffic light at Slater's Lane. If coming from the north/west, it is the first LEFT turn after the 14th St bridges/395/various airport exits. Google Dangerfield Island for directions. Brown National Park signs are posted on the Parkway. Meet in the first parking lot to the left. Restroom available JOAN OPPEL 703-328-9863 oppeljs@gmail.com |

SUN Jan 6 | GETTING BRIDGEY - CHAIN BRIDGE TO WOODROW WILSON BRIDGE Class C/CC 33 mi at 11:15 AM from BicycleSPACE 440 K ST NW, Washington, DC 20001 This ride will take us in a loop like circle across the two most outer bridges that circle and bridge (pun intended) the DMV, - the Chain and Woodrow Wilson bridge. Each bridge has a fantastic view of the DMV that is as both vast as it is different. Along the way, we ride on the Capital Crescent, C&O Canal (1 whole big rugged mile!) Custis, Mt Vernon and the Oxon Hill Bike Trails. And if that don't beat all, the ride takes us through two States (MD & VA) and one territory (DC). For those looking to do the whole ride from beginning to end I would say the ride will be in the 3-4 hour range with time allowed for stop and go riding in the city and stopping along the way for group pictures and restroom breaks. No official plans to stop for food, but we can stop for a quick snack at a convenience store if need be. However, I advise bringing your own riding eats. I may have some cue sheets for the ride, but best that you download them and print them out from the provided Ride with GPS image/link: https://goo.gl/1Hbk2t Directions: For those traveling to ride by vehicle, please take note parking is meter free on DC's streets on Sunday and there are various parking garages and lots within the immediate radius of BicycleSPACE. You can also check out www.spothero.com for parking availability and discounts on nearby lots. For those traveling by Metrorail, take the Green line and get off at the Gallery Place Chinatown station. Exit the station on 7th St NW and head north 3 blocks to K St NW. Make a right on K St NW and BicycleSPACE is 3 blocks on the right. For directions to the BicycleSPACE, please feel free to call the shop at (202) 962-0123.
