TOUR DE ACCOKEEK, 17MI
Class CC and up 17mi mi at 5:30 PM from Accokeek Firehouse
A diverse group ride (17mi) through residential roads, with a stellar "time trial" section down Marshall Hall road to the Potomac. Expect AMS of 13-14mph at the back, much quicker at the front if you want to scoot. Yes, there is ample shade on the route, which makes it a quite pleasant jaunt in the heat. As always, Guests are invited to get in a "let's check 'em out" ride. Cheers!

NK 40 HUGHESVILLE AGAIN
Class CC 40 mi at 9:30 AM from North Keys Community Park
BEST OF BRANDYWINE NK40-HUGHESVILLE AGAIN Class B 40 mi. Thu, August 03, 2017 9:30 AM | Sonja Newman Sonja Newman Members: Patricia Sanders, Susan Henn Route: North Keys Park to Hughesville. GRACIAS…RIDE LEADERS Lisha and Alan for LEADING rides A and B. Weather: Sunny at the start, hot summer weather at the finish!!! AMS: Cycling Pace 12 – 14AMS Mechanicals/Mishaps: No Mechanical Mishaps Report: Enjoyed this 40 mile ride to Hughesville and back with two riding partners, Susan and Patricia. At the start, we asked faster riders to lead out to help alleviate rider congestion. The first leg of the ride we rode at a steady pace with a few short intervals. As we pedaled through there were moments of wind, sun, excess warmth and shade. Saw Ken Meridith in the opposite direction on St. Peters Church Road. We met up with both the A and B riders at the Sunoco Station Rest stop. We heard that Regina's front tire got caught in between rail tracks. Hope all is Well w/Regina! The rest of the ride felt comfortable and relatively quick to the end. Nothing quite like the feeling of propelling yourself along Brandywine chatting with fellow riders at a sustainable pace. Upon return, air temperature and humidity had taken its toll on Susan. With the assistance of Patricia, Sam, Alan and George we quickly began a few steps to avoid overheating. I gave her water to drink and encouraged her to continue drinking to replace the fluids, poured cool water over her neck, forehead and arms and placed a cool pack over her back. (thanks, George for the Cool Pack)

TOUR DE ACCOKEEK
Class CC AND UP 17 mi at 5:30 AM from Accokeek Firehouse
A diverse group ride (17mi) through residential roads, with a stellar "time trial" section down Marshall Hall road to the Potomac. Short enough with elevation changes to keep all riders challenged, as well as, a great benchmark to see how your fitness progress is coming along. Expect AMS of 13-14mph at the back, much quicker at the front if you want to scoot. Yes, there is ample shade on the route, which makes it a quite pleasant jaunt in the heat. As always, Guests are invited to get in a "let's check 'em out" ride. Cheers!

WAYSON'S CORNER IN SUMMER: THE SEARCH FOR SERC
Class CC 48 mi at 9:30 AM from Wayson Corner Park and Ride
Let's do some exploring. The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (https://serc.si.edu/visit/maps-and-trails) is a coastal ecosystem research facility located in southern Anne Arundel County that offers public hiking trails, lectures and a kayak/canoe launch site on the Rhode River. So let's check it out! Of course we'll enjoy a pleasant bike ride while we're at it, including some roads that many of us haven't visited in a while. We'll have rest stops at stores in Harwood and Deale in addition to our stop at the SERC. You can view and download the route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/23744301. Ride leader will sweep. Optional lunch at Subway after the ride. Note that my plan is to check out the facility for future visits, not to actually hike the trails during this ride.
Directions: From I-95 Exit 11-A take Pennsylvania Avenue (Md 4) 10 miles past Upper Marlboro to Waysons Corner, exit Md 408. Left at the end of exit ramp to Waysons Corner. Bear right at the light and proceed to the park and ride on the right. [5442 Southern Maryland Blvd, Lothian, MD 20711]
