For those that want to get a ride in before tomorrow's Indian Head 100, this is a nice ride that is in the same general area but includes some different roads. Other class riders invited to come, select a leader, and ride at your own pace. To download the route into your gps device, go to the club's Route Library and search for BR 44 Riverside, from the Bryans Rd shopping center. Note-there is no longer a Safeway store in the shopping center.

SOUTHERN EXPOSURE: IH 100 THE DAY AFTER
Class CC/C 30 mi at 10:00 AM from Bryans Road Shopping Center
This is the fourth year for this post-IH100 spin. For those who volunteered at the event, otherwise didn't ride, want extra miles, or just feel like it's not Tuesday without Southern Exposure, come join us on this nice short and non-hilly route. To C riders considering - this is a shorter, flatter route than most SE rides so the CC/C ride leader will sweep at a pace to insure no rider left behind. I hope that we'll get some C riders venturing out. STARBUCK'S EXPRESS
Class B & Up 26 mi at 5:30 PM from Manokeek Village Center
For the rider who would like to get in a ride after their work day, or just to ride, with a restroom at the start/finish, the "Starbucks Express" is the perfect "Non Stop" 25 mile ride that will start and finish in front of Starbucks located in the Manokeek Village Center at the far southern, quiet edge of Prince George's County, Maryland. From there, the ride takes you into Charles County Maryland. You will then skirt with Waldorf, White Plains, ride 5 miles of the scenic Indian Head Rail Trail, where you can do intervals, a challenging climb up Mill Hill & Bumpy Oak Road, which will sometimes include Hill Repeats, Pomonkey, Bryans Road, Accokeek, and then return to Manokeek, where you can enjoy a refreshment at Starbucks to complete your ride experience. We will go down a pretty long hill (expect to reach 35 mph or more!), and of course, what goes down must go up, so there's Barrys Hill Road after the rest stop at the Marshall Hall Boat Landing on the shore of the Potomac River. We will spin 46 spectacularly scenic miles to Blue Earl Brewing in Smyrna, DE for lunch and technical rehydration. Then a mere 41 miles return us to our autos, and I kid you not that the second half of the route, just like the first, is beyond visual expectation. There's more! RAILWAY TO THE CHESAPEAKE

The summer heat and holiday season may be over but it's still fun down on the Chesapeake Bay. We'll take Southern Maryland Blvd to Bay Front, Mckendree, Jewel and Wilson to Friendship and a rest stop at the Dash In; then take Boyd's Turn and the Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail to Chesapeake Beach, North Beach and a rest stop at Herrington Harbor. The return's a bit unusual: Fairhaven and Leitch, but left at the top of the climb, then Brooks Woods and Greenock to Wrighton, Plummer Lane and the MD-4 Service Road. 42 miles, 1870' of elevation gain. Onward via MD-6, Durham Church, Ironsides, Smallwood Church, Sweetman, and Bicknell to a second rest stop at Pisgah Store. An old route we haven't done in quite a while, brought up-to-date. This one takes Brandywine to Baden Westwood, Westwood and Bald Eagle School to Croom and a rest stop at McGruders Landing; then returns on Baden Westwood and Baden Naylor to Brooks Church, Tanyard, Candy Hill and Croom and a rest stop at Moore's Country Store (instead of the now-closed Nottingham Store, as originally conceived). Retracing on Croom to St Thomas Church and Fenno, we take Nottingham to Croom, Candy Hill and Martin back to North Keys Park. 38 miles, 1639' of elevation gain. FLORA CORNER LOOP: PREQUEL TO STEVE'S RIDE

For anyone looking for a few extra miles before Steve's C/CC ride, this loop starts at the same place and takes New Market Turner and Flora Corner Rds, then returns to the Northern Senior Center via the Three Notch Trail. This ride takes us to the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and Patuxent River Park along back roads of Prince Georges County. Rest stops will be at each of the parks. A scenic St Marys County tour. We'll take the Three Notch Trail to a rest stop at Baggett Park, then visit the Loveville Mennonite community en route to a rest stop at Chaptico. We'll take Baptist Church back to Old Village, and at Lockes Crossing head into the Thompson Corner Amish community and a scenic out-and-back on Woodburn Hill before heading back to the Three Notch Trail to the ride start. 47 miles, 1310' of elevation gain (easily shortened to 40 by remaining on the 3NT at Lockes Crossing). Piggybacking on Jim & Jane's casual ride from the Indian Head Village Green to Smallwood State Park. In the park, we will visit the Mattawoman Creek Art Center and attend the opening reception for the "Southern Maryland Art" exhibit -see https://www.facebook.com/events/674326476420748. After refreshments and viewing the art depicting Southern Maryland, this route will go in the reverse direction of the 26 IH100 route. We'll leave the shorter route, turning right on Bicknell, then follow Pisgah Marbury, the Stuckeys, Poorhouse, and Ripley to Hawthorne. An exhilarating descent of Mighty Mountain Pisgah will be followed by Livingston to the IHRT which will return us to the start. 26.5 miles, 861' elevation gain. DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE

A feature of this route is riding the entire length of the marvelous Riverside Road. Riverside Road is beautifully paved, extremely low traffic volume, mild rollers and long stretches of flat pavement. LAUREL GROVE, LEONARDTOWN AND SANDGATES
Class C/CC 42 / 38 mi at 10:00 AM from Laurel Grove (John Baggett Park)
The scenic route to Leonardtown, with a rest stop at the Leonardtown Wharf. From there we'll head south on MD-5, going left on Fairgrounds Rd past the St Marys County Fairgrounds, then heading north on Brown Rd to a lunch stop at McKays. After lunch we'll go through Hollywood, across Three Notch Highway past Sotterley Plantation and down to the Patuxent on Sandgates before returning to the park. Directions: From Capital Beltway and MD-5 / Branch Ave head southeast on MD-5 S 11.5 mi. Use the left 3 lanes to turn left onto MD-5 S/Mattawoman Beantown Rd. Go 3.2 mi and use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto MD-5 S. Go 17.6 mi and continue onto MD-235 S. Go 3.0 mi and turn right into Laurel Grove Park.

WILLIAMSBURG BIKE PRE-TEST RIDE
Class All 24 mi at 1:30 PM from Jones Point Park
This is a 24 mile equipment test ride starting @ Jones Point at the Rudder for those who want to test/tweak their bikes. It is suggested that you bring with you the bike you intend to ride with some or all the articles you intend to take with you. The ride will include at least 4 trails and some road to give you a like similar experience of the actual ride to Williamsburg. The trail to road ratio is 90% trail and 10% road. Directions: From Local lanes on Wilson Bridge, take exit 177C for Mount Vernon. Turn left onto Washington Street (the George Washington Memorial Parkway) northbound. Turn right on Green Street. Drive two blocks, then turn right onto South Royal Street. Drive to the cul-de-sac at the end of the street and turn left to enter the park.
