NEW YEAR'S RIDE TOUR OF MONUMENTS
Class All 15 or more mi at 10:30 AM from Dangerfield Island
We celebrate the New Year by visiting some iconic monuments in DC in company of riding friends on a very low traffic day in DC. Ride start is moved this year to Dangerfield Island (restroom available), closer to DC. Those who wish to park at Jones Point and bike to Dangerfield can add 3 or so miles through Old Town along the Mt Vernon trail and meet us about 10:15. The closer start means a closer end point! We regroup at the Jefferson Memorial after about 4 miles and then visit several monuments in a more or less 6 mile loop. We will stop at a coffee shop along the way for warm drinks and snacks.
Directions: is between north Old Town Alexandria and National Airport on the George Washington Parkway. If coming from Old Town it is the first right turn after the traffic light at Slater's Lane. If coming from the north/west, it is the first LEFT turn after the 14th St bridges/395 North/various airport exits. Google Dangerfield Island for directions. Restroom available.

RURAL TIER ACROSS THE WIND
Class C/CC 25/30 mi at 10:30 AM from North Keys Community Park
The forecast is calling for an overcast day with temperatures in the 60s (!) and 12-13 mph winds with gusts up to 30. The worst thing about riding in the wind is riding into a headwind, and with this route there won't be any: it's all cross-winds and tailwinds, and mostly on wooded roads with some protection against the wind in the PG County Rural Tier (Rural Legacy country, where we ride on Thursday mornings). The basic route is 30 miles with a short-cut that brings the distance down to 25. 30 miles, 1364' elevation gain. Honestly - 60-67 degrees on the 11th of January - who cares if it's overcast and breezy? There's only one rest stop at the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary but we will be passing Moore's Country Store at around mile 20 and could stop there if needed. Route map and GPS files are here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19259827 and the cue sheet is in the Cloud: https://goo.gl/yUOhnT BYOQ (Bring Your Own Cue Sheet) Printed copies available by prior arrangement. Weather forecast and route plan can be found here: http://bit.ly/39VCOvW
Directions: From the Beltway (Rt495/95) take the Branch Ave South exit onto Branch Ave (Rt5). Continue south into Brandywine MD. From Route 5 make a left turn onto Brandywine RD. Go past the firehouse, and make a left turn onto North Keys Road. Travel for approximately 1.5 miles and make a left turn into the North Keys Community Park. [11806 North Keys Rd, Brandywine, MD 20613]

PISGAH PARK TO MALLOWS BAY
Class C/CC 32 mi at 11:00 AM from Pisgah Park
The forecast is calling for 67-71 degrees (!!) and breezy on an overcast but clearing day. Not too shabby for the 12th of January even if there is some overcast, so let's take advantage of it. This route visits the back roads of Nanjemoy with rest stops at the Nanjemoy store and Mallows Bay Park. 33 miles, 1029' elevation gain. Route map and GPS files are here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31722511 and the cue sheet is in the Cloud: http://bit.ly/35CIMyz This is a BYOQ (Bring Your Own Cue Sheet) Printed copies available by prior arrangement. Route plan and weather forecast here: http://bit.ly/35wjty8
Directions: From the intersection of Mason Springs Rd and Poorhouse Rd (i.e., the Pisgah store) continue south on Mason Spring Rd for about 7/10 of a mile, then turn right on Pisgah Park Pl. Follow the park entrance road 0.4 mi then go left into the park. 6645 Mason Springs Rd, La Plata, MD 20646
