SAILING MARINA TO THE CHERRY BLOSSOMS & NATIONAL ARBORETUM
Class C/Touring 30 mi at 10:30 AM from Sailing Marina
A scenic tour to view the Cherry Blossoms. We'll take the Mt Vernon Trail into DC, taking an excursion along E Basin and Ohio Drive to the Martin Luther King Memorial, where we'll view the cherry trees along the Tidal Basin, then take a loop around Hains Point to see more cherry blossoms. From there, we'll head through the National mall en route to a rest stop at Union Market, then go through the Gallaudet University Campus up to the National Arboretum. We'll take a tour through the Arboretum, then head north to Lincoln Park to another food stop at Eastern Market, returning through the Mall and over 14th St Bridge back to the Sailing Marina. 30 miles, lots of scenic view and lots of stops, hopefully since it's a work day not too many tourists. We'll be at the Jefferson Memorial, coming off the 14th St Bridge at mile 4.5, somewhere between 11:00 am and 11:15. If you want to start at a different location you could ride to the Jefferson and join us there (contact me in advance to arrange a rendezvous). Route map & GPS files are here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29570239 and the cue sheet (a 2 page, 3 column affair with over 70 cues) is in the Cloud: https://goo.gl/gqXidQ This is a BYOQ - please print your own cue sheet. Printed copies available by prior arrangement.
Directions: From Beltway take Alexandria exit east to Washington St./GW Parkway. Go north 2 miles to Sailing Marina on right.

DEALE, FRANKLIN MANOR, SHADYSIDE & CHALK POINT
Class C/CC 40 or less mi at 10:45 AM from Deale Elementary School
It doesn't get any flatter than this: 40 miles of meandering through water side neighborhoods with less than 350' of elevation gain. Starting at Deale Elementary School we'll tour Masons Beach and Deale Beach, then meander through Franklin Manor on our way to a rest stop at Christophers Fine Foods. After the break we'll head out onto the Shadyside Peninsula, touring several neighborhoods on the water, briefly stopping at Shadyside Park before returning to Christophers for another break. The final leg of our tour will take us up to Chalk Point to see the boats before we return to Deale. There are a lot of cues. This is a scenic tour, and "meander" is the operative word. There will be some stretches along the main roads where you can really stretch your legs, but mostly we'll be on the out-and-backs: wandering through the back streets, taking in the sights and enjoying the arrival of spring. It's 40 miles if you do all the out-and-back trips through all the neighborhoods, less (perhaps much less) if you skip some -- and you can do that and easily rejoin those riding longer. Depending on how we feel and how the spirit moves, we may do some or all. Route map & GPS files are here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29643645 and the cue sheet is in the Cloud: http://bit.ly/2UzkPGO This is a BYOQ - please print your own cue sheet. Printed copies available by prior arrangement.
Directions: 759 Masons Beach Rd, Deale, MD 20751 From I495 take exit 11A for MD-4 S. In 11.6 mi take the MD-258E exit towards Bristol/Deale. Continue on MD-258 / E Bay Front Rd. Turn right on Rockhold Creek Rd, then turn left on Deale Rd. Continue straight onto Masons Beach Rd. The school is on the right. It's 33 miles from Alexandria and according to Google Maps weekend travel time should be under 1 hr.

Come out and join the fun! https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12340169.
