TWO BEACHES AND MAYBE HARWOOD Class CC 51/45 mi. 8:30 AM from Wayson Corner Park and Ride. It's still summer!! So let's ride to the beach. The longer route also goes up to Harwood with a third stop there. You can view and download the 51-miler at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28472449?beta=false. The 45-miler is at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28480967?beta=false. Ride leader will sweep and bring cue sheets for both.

3-BUMP CHUMP Class B+/A 30-40mi mi. 9:00 AM from Manokeek Village Center. A great workout ride, which means there are sections to push, and recovery sections where everyone gathers back up. Distance is dependent on how riders feel, as there's several off-shoot variations that are worthwhile to plunder. Mill Hill, Bumpy Oak, Barry's Hill are the namesakes, with a few others that can be added if riders want to "chump" around for the day and get mileage in. Skills, Handling and Technique are emphasized. No loitering rest stops, although water is available at Arthur Ross...bring a snack. Start together - Finish together. Aqua-therapy cool down is available after the ride at Michael's (bring a suit or just jump in with bike shorts.) Cheers!
Dir: From the Washington Beltway (I-95), take Indian Head Hwy Md 210 south towards Indian Head for approximately ten miles, turn left onto Berry Rd Md 228, after a half mile turn right onto Manning Rd and then take the second right into the Manokeek Shopping Village. Park in front of Starbucks. [7053 Berry Rd, Accokeek, MD 20607]

SOUTHERN EXPOSURE: IH 100 THE DAY AFTER Class CC/C 30 mi. 10:00 AM from Bryans Road Shopping Center. Per Barbara's A/B description: "This is the third year for this post-IH 100 spin. For those who volunteered at the event, otherwise didn't ride, want extra miles, or just feel like it's not Tuesday without Southern Exposure, come join us on this nice short and non-hilly route." To C riders considering - this is a shorter, flatter route than most SE rides so the CC/C ride leader will sweep at a pace to insure no rider left behind. I hope that we'll get some C riders venturing out. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16355330 Cue Sheet: http://bit.ly/BR30_IH100_day_after Ride leader will have a few copies but best to print your own cue sheet if possible. TOUR D'ACCOKEEK Class C 16+ mi. 5:00 PM from Accokeek Firehouse. TOUR DE ACCOKEEK Class CC AND UP 16 mi. 5:00 PM from Accokeek Firehouse. A long time mid-week club favorite is back on the schedule for 2018. It's not too long, nor too short, nor too fast. It is a CC-Touring class, so please be able to ride at a sustained 12 - 14 ams. Faster riders are welcome, and there is usually a fast and fun and "slightly" competitive group in front. For all the rest of us, there is usually a B-class group in the middle, and a true CC group (which also stands for the "casual conversation" group) bringing up the rear. No one gets dropped; there will always be a designated person riding "sweep." This is a great skills-building ride. We also go down a pretty long hill (expect to reach 35 mph or more!), and of course, what goes down must go up, so there's a good "double-climb" hill at about mile 12. A rest stop at the shore of the Potomac River around mile 10. Come out and join the fun! Some riders like to go to the local B&J Carry-Out after the ride for a sandwich or ice cream. See you on Wednesday. Dir: Take Md 210 south approximately 10 mi. from the beltway. Go right on Livingston Road at the Accokeek Rd 373 light (B&J Carryout). BEST OF BRANDYWINE: MALCOLM, PINEFIELD & CEDARVILLE Class CC/TOURING 32 mi. 10:30 AM from North Keys Community Park. Will it rain? It's not clear - according to the hourly forecast, there's a 30-40% chance of showers between 11 am and noon -- but that's also a 60-70% chance it won't rain, and that's better than even odds. So on the chance that it won't rain on Thursday, here's a ride for the occasion: 32 mostly flat miles to Malcolm and a rest stop at the Moreland Market, followed by a tour of Pinefield and a brief excursion across 301 to a second rest stop at the WaWa. But instead of continuing on to McKendree, Accokeek, Danville and Floral Park (as in the 41 mile original) this time after the break we'll go back across 301 and return to North Keys Park via Cedarville, Ashbox, Brandywine and Gibbons Church. Route map & GPS files are in the club's RWGPS Route Library: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28585306?beta=false and the cue sheet is in the Cloud: https://goo.gl/nsEUAB If it goes, this will be a BYOQ (printed copies available by prior arrangement). The fire station is on right after about 3/4 mi. Park toward the back.[16111 Livingston Rd, Accokeek, MD]

WEATHER RULES

Unless otherwise stated, rides may be canceled if the temperature is less than 40 degrees or the chance of precipitation is greater than 50% on www.weather.com during the ride. Call the ride leader if in doubt.

Ride Leaders Guidelines

  1. Prepare a cue sheet and/or map (either new or existing club route) and scout the route before the ride. You may use cue sheets in the club's cue sheet library. Other good places to find cue sheets or to create a cue sheet are www.BikeRouteToaster.com, www.RideWithGPS.com, www.Bikely.com, and www.MapMyRide.com.
  2. Submit the ride to the Ride Schedule with the online Ride Submission Form.   Rides submitted will automatically appear on the online schedule. To submit multiples rides, use your browser's "back" button to return to the ride submission form.
  3. If you have a cell phone, include its number on the cue sheet and have your cell phone on during the ride.
  4. Arrive 10-15 minutes before the ride start time.
  5. Have all riders sign a release sign-up form.
  6. Give all riders a cue sheet and/or map.
  7. Welcome the riders and brief them on details of ride stops, problems, pace, etc.
  8. Make sure the riders wear helmets.
  9. "Lead from the rear" or appoint someone to "ride sweep!"
  10. Ride at the advertised pace!
  11. Carry the sign-up sheet with you on the ride so that you have riders' emergency contact information if needed.
  12. After the ride, post your ride report at http://ohbike.memberlodge.org/reports.

Rider Responsibilities

  1. Arrive early to sign-in and be ready to leave on time.
  2. Some starting points do not have restrooms, plan accordingly.
  3. Make sure your bicycle is in proper working order before you arrive.
  4. Carry a spare tube, patch kit, pump, water bottle and snack.
  5. Carry identification and emergency money.
  6. Sign a ride waiver and get a cue sheet and/or map from the ride leader.
  7. Wear a helmet!
  8. Practice safety and obey all traffic laws.
  9. Do not "bike off" more than you can do. Go on rides within your ability, interest and experience level. If in doubt, phone the ride leader.
  10. Riders should maintain the pace as advertised. The rider may ride faster or slower than this pace if s/he knows the route and advises the leader accordingly. In this case the leader will not be responsible for the cyclists safe return or completion of the ride.
  11. Riders should advise the ride leader if the rider will not complete the ride or deviate from the designated route.
  12. Riders should warn nearby cyclists of road debris or, when in the rear, warning leading cyclists of approaching motorists from behind.
  13. Riders should as simple courtesy help out others with mechanical problems. Riders will try to help but there is no obligation to wait for cyclists with major breakdowns.
  14. Riders should use common sense and courtesy.
