My name is Jim Hudnall, and I am speaking tonight on behalf of the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club. This club was formed 27 years ago to promote and encourage bicycling as a means of transportation and recreation, to encourage the use of bicycling facilities and to promote the establishment of new and better facilities. We applaud those who work to limit suburban sprawl, reduce automobile congestion and pollution, and make our county a better place in which to live.

We encourage you to recognize and promote bicycling as a legitimate form of alternative transportation, a form that has the additional benefits of physical fitness, cleaner air and fewer motor vehicles on the road. There should be more to the county than multi-lane highways, subdivisions and commercial sprawl. County leaders have recognized that. But the County needs to do more, and promoting and encouraging bicycling - making Prince George's County bicycle-friendly - is one way to get there.

People in this county should be able to safely bicycle to their jobs, shopping, post office, library, and parks or other recreational facilities. Let's work together to have our county better serve its residents.
