Ride 16, 29, 43, 60 and 100 miles through the Potomac Heritage Area of Southern Maryland. Enjoy riding on shaded roads with little traffic as you pedal to rest stops at the Mattawoman Creek Art Center in Smallwood State Park, a bluff overlooking the Potomac at Riverside, Saint Ignatius Church at Chapel Point, and the Thomas Stone Historic House. Your registration fee includes cue sheets and marked routes, rest stops with food and drink, SAG support, and an after-ride picnic.Registration through September 7 is $30; $40 on the day of the ride. Maryland Bicycle Symposium Annapolis, MD. Bike Maryland (formerly One Less Car) is sponsoring the 15th annual Maryland Bicycle Symposium for cyclists, advocates, industry leaders and elected officials from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm in the Miller Senate Office Building in Annapolis. The Symposium seeks to educate and empower advocates, identify common issues in our local communities, set priorities for improving the future of bicycling in Maryland, and demonstrate the economic impact of our state's bicycling community. This is a free day-long event with 15+ expert presenters, but please consider a donation to help cover the cost of planning for this event. Suggested donation is $30 and is 100% tax deductible. |

WABA's 2012 Vasa Ride Washington, DC. 15, 31 and 59 miles from the House of Sweden, 2900 K St., NW Washington, DC 20007. Join the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and the Embassy of Sweden in celebrating Sweden's famed ski race and festival, Vasaloppet, by bike! Starting from the Embassy of Sweden building, House of Sweden, bicyclists will duplicate the 59-mile Vasa race with a non-competitive ride through scenic upper Northwest Washington DC and into Montgomery County, MD. In keeping with the Vasaloppet’s week-long series of events for everyone, WABA also has designed shorter routes, a Halv Vasa (31 miles) and a Kort Vasa (15 miles). Times: Registration will start at 7:30am and end at 9:00 am. 59-Mile Vasa will start at 8:00am. 31-mile Halv Vasa will start at 8:30am. 15-mile Kort Vasa will start at 9:00am. 2011 Face of America Bike Ride Washington, DC to Gettysburg,
PA. A two day 110 mile ride from the Pentagon near Washington, DC to the historic battlefields of Gettysburg, PA to honor Wounded Warriors. Registration for civilian participants is $100, retired military is $50, active duty is $50. Wounded Warrior participation is FREE. The registration fee includes the Friday night dinner, Saturday breakfast and lunch, Sunday steak and beer at the ride finish; return bus transportation from Gettysburg to Washington, DC is an additional $10. Ride for Life Reston, VA. 10, 20 and 52 miles on the W&OD Trail from the Reston Town Center Pavilion. This bicycle ride is dedicated to the memory of Paul Rossmeissl, who was 54 when he died on June 7, 2006, from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident on the W&OD Trail. As a result of this tragedy, Paul gave the gift of life to three individuals who received his liver and both of his kidneys. Anacostia Trails "Rivers to Rockets" Bike Rally Bladensburg,
MD. 10, 20 and 30 miles from the Baldensburg Waterfront park. Choose from the 10 mile, local route around the Arts District; a 20 mile route via Berwyn Heights to Greenbelt to see them on their 75th Anniversary; and a 30 mile loop to Beltsville Agricultural Research Center and the Greenbelt National Park. All routes are well suited to a variety of skill levels, although the 30 mile loop may have a few more hills involved. of Washington Beltway). 13, 27, 45 and 62 miles from the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, with rest stops at the Jug Bay Natural Area in Patuxent River Park, at a beach-park where Magruder’s Ferry once crossed the Patuxent, and at Eagle Harbor in a shady yard overlooking the Patuxent. This is the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club's annual ride to showcase Prince George’s County’s Patuxent River Rural Legacy Area, where farms, wetlands, and woods are being protected from development with Maryland’s Rural Legacy Program. Kick-Off Event for Cycle Maryland Chestertown, MD. Governor Martin O’Malley is hosting a Kick-Off Event for Cycle Maryland at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, at the Chesapeake Exploration Center, 425 Piney Narrows Road Chester, Maryland 21619. The site is located just over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, right off of Route 50 on the waterfront along Kent Narrows on Kent Island. The Kick-Off event will include a 10- to 12-mile bike ride along the Cross Island Trail on Kent Island following the announcement. Cyclists may choose do the 10-mile loop from the Chesapeake Exploration Center to the Terrapin Nature Center and back. For those who have worked up an appetite, you may choose to take the two-mile roundtrip, on-road trail spur to the restaurants on the east side of Kent Narrows. The purpose of this new initiative is to promote cycling throughout Maryland. |

Alleghany Gran Fondo Clifton Forge/Covington, VA. 35, 60 and 88 miles in the beautiful Alleghany Highlands of Virginia. This is a timed cycling challenge with challenging routes, sag and neutral tech support, chip timing, pre and post- event food, drink and festival. Beginning at 8:30 AM in downtown Clifton Forge, Va, the ride will traverse the gorgeous back roads and challenging climbs of the area before finishing in downtown Covington with a finish line party that will deliver a good time for participants and residents, alike. The three courses will present a challenge for the riders, especially the middle (medio) and longest (gran) distance routes, which include the climb up Airport Road (VA Route 606). This route was used in the stage of the Tour of Virginia bicycle race that finished in Covington in 2007. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in its fight against this debilitating disease. Tour of the Historic C&O Canal Almost 200 miles on the C&O Canal. No hills, no headwinds, & no cars. Plenty of food, lots of support, ride at your own pace, well organized. This popular tour is an annual fundraising event which benefits the San Mar Children's Home in Boonsboro, Maryland. Timmy's Century North Bend State Park, near Parkersburg,
WV. 105 miles (58 miles on Saturday and 47 miles on Sunday). Enjoy cycling on the North Bend Rail Trail, a 72-mile long, mostly crushed stone multi-use trail in the heart of West Virginia. This event raises funds for the Timothy Quigley Foundation, an organization established to help relieve the financial burdens of families that are currently suffering from the emotional and financial stress of childhood cancer. Registration fee is $35 until July 31, $45 on or after July 31. Riders must raise a minimum of $300. Three
Creek Century Carlisle, PA. 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles through the scenic Cumberland Valley of central Pennsylvania. Ride on lightly traveled roads along and over the Conodoguinet, Yellow Breeches and Big Spring creeks which feed the Susquehanna river. Cue sheets, sag wagons and rest stops are provided for all routes as well as markings on the road to guide the riders on the routes. This event is well known for its homemade cookies, soup and other great food. Most of the routes offer gentle terrain, although one of the 25 mile routes contains some challenging hills. The Three Creek Century is a sponsored by and is a major source of operating funds for the Harrisburg Bicycle Club. The cost of registration is $15 if postmarked by August 15th and $25 if postmarked later ($7.50 for 16 & under). On April 6th, 2010, Larry Bensky was tragically killed while riding his bike on Butler Road, near Falls Road in Baltimore County. This event was created by his wife, Tami Bensky, and a group of Larry’s friends to remember and honor Larry’s life while bringing attention to the need for increased driver awareness on our roads. Enforcement Ride and Run to Remember National Harbor,
MD. 15, 31 and 62 miles from National Harbor, with the 31- and 62-mile routes going to Fort Washington, the 62-mile route to Marshall Hall, and all three routes crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Bike-Ped Trail to Alexandria and ending with a celebration at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Site in Judiciary Square in downtown Washington. The Law Enforcement Ride & Run to Remember is a fun, community-oriented athletic event designed to honor the contribution and sacrifice law enforcement officers make every day and encourage community support for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Registration fee is $35 ($45 on day of the ride). All registered riders and runners must also agree to raise a minimum of $54 for the Law Enforcement Ride & Run to Remember, benefiting the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund, because law enforcement officers support us every day – and every 54 hours an officer makes the ultimate sacrifice. The Law Enforcement Ride and Run to Remember will be held on October 14th 2012. It is a fundraising event that benefits the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. It starts at the National Harbor in Prince Georges County, goes through some back roads in P.G. County before crossing the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. From there it goes through Alexandria, VA and onto the Potomac Trail and into Downtown D.C. to the Law Enforcement Memorial. Events include a Quarter, Half and Metric Century, along with a 5K Run. Crop Hop
St. Mary's County, MD. 5, 13, 29 and 63 miles - a bike tour of Southern Maryland farms offering riders a unique experience touring the food and farms of St. Mary’s County. Sponsored by the Southern Maryland Agriculture Development Commission, with all money raised going to help low income communities receive fresh, local produce with the help of the Southern Maryland Food Bank. Riders will stop periodically to tour farms and refresh themselves on locally oriented snacks. Riders will also receive a meal upon completing their routes cooked locally and consisting of local ingredients. |

Shenandoah
Fall Foliage Festival Staunton, VA. 10 to 100 miles. Saturday routes extend into eastern Augusta County with lunch in New Hope, a small picturesque village. Visit Grand Caverns before or after lunch. For shorter routes, drive to the lunch site and select a route ranging from 12 to 32 miles. Sunday routes go into southern Augusta and Rockbridge counties with distances from 10 to 34 miles. Camping or sleeping in the gym is available. |

Save-A-Limb
Ride and Festival Oregon Ridge Park, MD. 6, 15, 30 or 63 miles from Oregon Ridge Park. Sponsored by the Save-A-Limb Fund at Sinai Hospital. Proceeds all go to help the Save-A-Limb Fund provide the much needed surgeries and assistance to patients who need limb lengthening and joint preservation surgeries to save their limbs and joints from amputation, both domestically and abroad. Ride along with cycle legends George Hincapie and Robbie Venutra through Maryland’s beautiful horse farms and rolling countryside while raising money for an worthwhile cause. Registration fee covers a goodie bag filled with fun sports related items, a commemorative event T-shirt, post-ride picnic, fitness fair, and carnival. Registration fee before September 1 is $35 for the metric, $25 for the 30 or 15 miles, and $10 for the 6 miles. |

Cycle for Life Herrington Harbour South, Rose Haven, MD. 20 miles, 40 miles or 62.5 miles through some of the most scenic landscapes in Maryland. Cycle at your own pace, starting at 8 am. Enjoy a family friendly after party with refreshments, beer garden and entertainment. The Aptalis CF Cycle for Life at Herrington Harbour features well-stocked rest stops every 10-12 miles, bike mechanics along the route, support vehicles, ride marshals, meals and much more. Cyclists are required to raise a minimum of $165 to participate, registration is $25. |

Between the Waters Bike Tour Onancock, VA. 25, 40, 60 or 100 miles through interesting historic towns and communities and along back roads to scenic rest stops that overlook the Atlantic seaside and the Chesapeake Bay. This one day bike tour is an ecotourism event and fundraiser for Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore, a non-profit organization serving Northampton and Accomack counties. $45 per adult rider until Oct. 1, then $60. $15 for rider 7-12 yrs until October 1, then $20. Riders 6 years and under are free(no t-shirt). Fee includes lunch, rest stops with refreshments, t-shirt and cue sheets. |
