Potomac Heritage Trail

The Prince George's County Bicycle and Trail Advisory Group (BTAG) is considering on-road alternatives for the Potomac Heritage Trail. The on-road route would have signs and maps to designate the bike route through the county. BTAG is also determining preferred alignments for multi-use paths close to the river where possible.

The first ride on the club's May Ride Schedule was an all-class ride from Oak Ridge Park.  Eleven cyclists showed up for the ride on a beautiful morning that was cooler and windier than the forecast.

Club's 27th Annual Meeting and Banquet

Forty club members attended the club's annual meeting and banquet at the Old County Buffet in Waldorf. Club President Pierre Summerville presented Certificates of Appreciation to club newsletter editor Dorothy Hodges and others. Our guest speaker, Sharon Ballenger, entertained everyone with stories from her bicycle trip across America.


Jeanne's Birthday Ride
Jan. 16, 1999

Ten cyclists joined Jeanne to celebrate her birthday with a 59 km ride from Cosca Park. After  posing for the group picture, we tried singing Happy Birthday to Jeanne. Someone remarked, "If we can't ride better than we sing, we're in trouble." After a cold start, we had great weather for cycling, with the temperature climbing to 50 degrees.

Let's Go to Bike Florida

Four of us from the club (Art, Dottie, Jane, and Jim) went in 1998 and had six days of great cycling.  For info on Bike Florida, click on the Bike Florida logo.

Bike Florida is just one of many multi-day rides that are presented by members of the National Bicycle Tour Directors Association. Their web site has a calendar of all the bicycle tours 3 days or longer, with links to each ride's  home page.

Trail Blazing  Dorothy lobbied for bridge repair on the Henson Creek Trail.

Bicycles Belong The Club is urging our government officials to use funding available through the federal Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) to complete the Henson Creek Hiker-Biker Trail.
