The day started with birthday cake for Dorothy's 80th. Seventy-three riders registered to ride, with many making additional contributions to the CAM Teens of Prince Georges' County. Also riding were 16 CAM Teens and their mentors. Riders were soon off on journeys of 26, 40, or 63 miles. Those going the 40 or 63 miles rode through Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary. All arrived at the Molly Berry Road rest stop where they were greeted by Dorothy and an abundant selection of snacks (thanks to Lee and Lynn.) Those doing the 63 miles rode a 23 mile loop and were back at the rest stop, looking more for rest than food this time. SAG wagons were on the road and ready to give cyclists help (thanks George and Joan, Don, and Jane.) Beth had a flat, and Don soon had her back on the road. The last two riders finishing the 63 miles were a father and daughter on their first metric. Congratulations! Hope we see everyone again in September for the Oak Ridge Odyssey. |
