May Day Oak Ridge Park Ride
Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club

Eleven cyclists came out for the club's first ride in May, an all-class ride from Oak Ridge Park. The weather was cooler and much windier than the forecast.  Jackie and Randy wanted a head start into the wind, so they had gone by the time we posed for a group picture; and Lucy got there too late for the picture. In the group picture are Ken, Nick, Bernie, Tom, Ron, Jan, Jim, and Jane. We used the map and cue sheet from the Oak Ridge Odyssey half-century. The AA riders, Jan, Tom, Ken, and Bernie, rode the fifty miles, and the others planned to ride a shorter version with a shortcut making it about forty miles. The B riders (Jim, Jane, and Lucy) missed their turn onto Cooksey Road and were later met by the AA riders coming up Penns Hill Road. We stopped at Art's house to top off our water bottles and enjoy the view from behind his house. Art wasn't at home, but we helped ourselves. (Thanks, Art.)

From Art's house, we went to Chapel Point and Pope's Creek. Jackie and Randy were enjoying lunch at  Captain Billy's Seafood House.  Jane, Lucy, and Jim joined them and had delicious crabcake sandwiches. After lunch, our pace  was slower, partly because of the strong afternoon headwinds.

We enjoyed the backroads and views of  Southern Maryland. Lucy, on her new Cannondale, is getting ready for the Columbia Triathlon.
