One hundred and thirteen cyclists registered to ride. Many made additional contributions to the CAM Teens of Prince George's County. The club will match the $303 given in donations. The county coordinator of the CAM Teen Program is Pierre Summerville, past president of the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club. Twenty-two CAM Teens and their mentors joined the other 113 riders for a great day of cycling.Riders were soon off on journeys of 26, 40, or 63 miles. Those going the 40 or 63 miles rode through Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary. All arrived at the Molly Berry Road rest stop where they were greeted by Pete and Jeanne Ulrich with an abundant selection of snacks and Gatorade (thanks to Lee and Lynn Martin) and fresh fruit (thanks to Rita Zuchelli and Keany Produce Company.)
Those doing the 63 miles rode a 23 mile loop and were back at the rest stop, looking more for rest than food this time. SAG wagons were on the road and ready to give cyclists help (thanks Randy Schoch, Jack Snead, Jan Tucker, and Jim Hudnall.) Back in Cosca Park, returning cyclists found sliced watermelon (thanks Jane Hudnall, Helen Abadzi, and and Mimi Newcastle.) Many thanks to Nick Padula for helping with the cleanup.
Everyone appreciated the talent, time, and hard work of Ride Coordinator Jeanne Ulrich. Jeanne designed the route, painted the road markings, made the cue sheets and maps, recruited the volunteers, worked at the rest stop, and took care of many details that made the ride a success.
Congratulations to all who made it up Thrift Hill!
