The Ride to Welcome

Sunday, September 26, 1999

Pierre and Friends Scott and His Boys
Steve planned the route and led the ride.  Pierre made phone calls and Jim sent e-mail inviting cyclists to come out for this club ride. Fourteen riders came and rode a 36 mile loop from Bryans Road to Welcome and back. Young and old came to ride. The youngest rider was eight years old.
Welcome, Md. At the Counter
After 20 miles we were at Scott's Store in Welcome, Maryland. We gathered around the counter and waited for the cook to make tuna fish sandwiches, a house specialty. Freshly made with a lot of pickle relish and onion, the sandwiches were delicious and provided the fuel we needed for the 16 mile run back to Bryans Road.
Art Steve Mimi
Art cycled to the start at Bryans Road from his home in Port Tobacco. Ride Leader Steve leads a group up the ride's last big hill on Livingston Road (Md 224). Mimi beams with pride at her AMS of 16.1 MPH, surpassing her previous best of 14 MPH.
Pierre Benny
Club President Pierre throws his arms out triumphantly and shouts, "My first time to finish a ride before Benny!" A few minutes later Benny rolls into the parking lot. He had stopped to change a flat for Joni on the hill on Livingston Road.
